César started carving wood back in the 1980’s and in 2008, he discovered his passion for Sculpting Mermaids. That passion and his creativity continue to grow to this day, 16 years now. Cape Fear Mermaids are made out of carved wood and also metal.
The wood is mainly made up of American Cedar and Driftwood.
The metals used are Copper, Zinc and beer or soda bottle caps.
For the paint he uses epoxy, different resins and metal or rust finishes.
On average, each mermaid takes between 3 to 6 weeks to make.
For the past 7+ years César exhibited his mermaids in Eclipse, a Wilmington Gallery. His art is well received and he has received great recognition for his work. Here is a small glimpse at César's work. Click on the CURRENT GALLERY button below to see more.
